Maia is a soulful and talented vocalist, composer and arranger from Montreal. Growing up, Maia was exposed to various styles of music which led her to pursue her passion further.

Once admitted to Marianopolis College, a deep-rooted love for Jazz emerged and continued to grow throughout the rest of her education. This new found love led her to discover various artists such as Betty Carter, Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughan which continue to inspire her unique sound.

Currently, Maia is fulfilling the last year of her Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance at McGill. During her education, she has had the privilege of studying with Ranee Lee, Camille Thurman, Darrell Green, Bohdanna Novak and Sienna Dahlen. She has participated in the Charles Tolliver Africa/Brass Choir, the McGill Jazz Choir led by Bohdanna Novak, the Holiday House Party @ Centaur led by Ranee Lee, Countering the Facts led by Ranee Lee, and is currently the vocalist in the McGill Jazz Orchestra II led by Lex French.

Outside of studies, Maia has played at Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill, Centaur Theatre, Modavie, Barbossa as well as private events around the city. She also offers private singing lessons and is a vocal coach at l’École de chant Johanne Raby.

At the heart of Maia’s journey is her desire to spread love and feeling through her music. With her blues, soul, and folk influences, you’ll find yourself transported into a world of velvety tones and raw feeling.

“Music is feeling. Performance is joining hands on a journey where we move through and coast along the myriad of raw human emotions that unify us.”
